I would like to announce interim department heads for the Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering and the Department of Animal Science in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences:
- Patricia Smith, Ph.D., interim department head, Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering
- Andy Herring, Ph.D., interim department head, Department of Animal Science
Dr. Smith currently serves as associate department head of Biological and Agricultural Engineering and directs the department’s undergraduate program. She is a recipient of the 2019 Margaret Annette Peters Award for advising. Her research focuses on hydrologic modeling, land use and cover effects on hydrologic processes. These lead to the development of total maximum daily loads for bacterial impairment of streams.
Dr. Herring is the John K. Riggs ’41 Beef Cattle Professor in the Department of Animal Science and member of the Texas A&M University intercollegiate faculty of genetics. He handles both teaching and research, with his research interests focusing on increasing production efficiencies for cow-calf producers through breeding systems, environmental resources and marketing strategies.
I want to thank Dr. John Tracy for his leadership and service as interim department head for Biological and Agricultural Engineering. Dr. Tracy will continue in his role as director of the Texas Water Resources Institute.
I also thank Dr. Cliff Lamb for his leadership as head of the Department of Animal Science and new role as director of AgriLife Research.
Please join me in welcoming both Dr. Smith and Dr. Herring to their interim leadership positions. I am thankful for their service to our College and Texas A&M AgriLife.
