Colleagues,
I’m happy to announce David Threadgill, Ph.D., as the head of the Department of Nutrition.
Dr. Threadgill has been serving as interim department head since January 2020. During this time, he has demonstrated outstanding leadership and commitment in furthering our land-grant mission and helping build on the rich heritage of Aggie leadership in the field of nutrition.
He will continue to lead the department as it works to build new bridges between agriculture, life sciences and human health, and advance discoveries in maintaining health and preventing chronic diseases.
He brings a holistic perspective as he is a University Distinguished Professor and a Regents Professor, and has been a member of other departments including the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics, the Department of Veterinary Pathobiology at the Texas A&M University School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, and the Department of Cell Biology and Genetics at the Texas A&M University School of Medicine.
With this new appointment, he will hold a joint appointment with the Department of Nutrition and the Department of Cell Biology and Genetics in the School of Medicine, where he holds the Tom and Jean McMullin Chair of Genetics.
Dr. Threadgill’s distinguished academic career includes serving as chair of the Interdisciplinary Faculty of Genetics at Texas A&M and director of the Texas A&M Center for Environmental Health Research. He was founding director of the Texas A&M Institute for Genome Sciences and Society.
Dr. Threadgill earned a bachelor’s in zoology and doctoral degree in genetics, both from Texas A&M, and conducted a post-doctoral fellowship in genetics at Case Western Reserve University. Prior to joining the faculty at Texas A&M and the Texas A&M Health Science Center in 2013, Dr. Threadgill was a professor and head of the Department of Genetics at North Carolina State University.
Please join me in welcoming Dr. Threadgill into this new leadership role.
