Howdy,
I am excited to announce Audrey McElroy, Ph.D., as the head of the Department of Poultry Science.
Dr. McElroy has demonstrated outstanding leadership over the past three years as interim head and shown her commitment to, and passion for, the Department of Poultry Science and Texas A&M University.
She is a former student who earned her bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees from the department she now leads. She has enjoyed a distinguished career in the private sector and in academia — at Virginia Tech and Texas A&M — as a researcher, educator and Extension specialist. Her experience translates well toward leading the department’s collective land-grant mission.
The Department of Poultry Science faculty, staff and students, as well as myself, are excited about her servant-leader style and ability to engage with stakeholders for financial and collaborative support. Dr. McElroy has a strong vision for the department that is based on her history in it and her experience within land-grant institutions and industry. A story about her career and vision for the department is now on AgriLife Today.
I look forward to watching her guide the department and seeing its impact on the ever-evolving production of poultry for industry, commercial and backyard producers, and the public.
Please join me in welcoming Dr. McElroy into this new leadership role.
Thanks and Gig ’em,
Jeffrey W. Savell
