Al Davis appointed Director of Texas A&M Forest Service

Texas A&M AgriLife Office of the Vice Chancellor and Dean

Colleagues,

I’m happy to announce that today the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents appointed Al Davis as director for the Texas A&M Forest Service.

Mr. Davis has already proven to be an outstanding leader for the agency, having served as interim director for the past two years. His focus on people and leadership development has advanced the agency’s mission and made him a key part of the Texas A&M AgriLife leadership team. I am grateful that Mr. Davis will continue to guide the Texas A&M Forest Service as it conserves our state’s forest resources and leads Texans in stewardship and disaster preparedness.

Before coming to the Texas A&M Forest Service, Mr. Davis served as deputy agency director of the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service since 2014. He had been with TEEX since 2005, serving as director of the National Emergency Response and Recovery Training Center.

Mr. Davis’ additional professional contributions include previously serving as chairman of the National Domestic Preparedness Consortium and as co-founder and principal emeritus of the National Cyber Security Preparedness Consortium. He was also a former advisory board member of the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security.

Before joining The Texas A&M University System, he worked as a consultant with United Water and served as a chief executive of the Public School District in New Orleans. He also served in the U.S. Marine Corps, retiring with the rank of colonel.

He holds a bachelor’s degree from Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, along with two master’s degrees – from the National Defense University in Washington, D.C., and Averett University in Danville, Virginia.

Please join me in congratulating Al on his official appointment as director of the Texas A&M Forest Service!

Jeffrey W. Savell
