Colleagues,
Please join me in expressing gratitude to Dr. Rudy Nayga, head of the Department of Agricultural Economics, for service to his department and our organization. He intends to step down as head of the department and return to faculty in August 2025.
Since Dr. Nayga began his position as head in August 2021, he oversaw the growth of many areas of the department. Student enrollment has increased. New faculty members have been hired, faculty expertise has expanded to new areas, and the department’s faculty and programs have garnered positive recognition nationally and internationally.
We are fortunate to be able to continue working with Dr. Nayga during this year and beyond. His continued work as department head during this academic year is much appreciated. We wish him the best as he prepares to dive fully into his research and academic career.
We will continue to keep you informed as we prepare a national search for his replacement. The search committee is being chaired by Dr. Clay Mathis, professor and head for the Department of Animal Science.
Again, please join me in thanking Dr. Nayga for his service,
Jeffrey W. Savell
Vice Chancellor and Dean, Agriculture and Life Sciences
