Options for Web Site Production
The AgriLife Web Corps offers three options to those who want either a brand new Web site, or a redesign of their current site. Each option is targeted towards helping the site owner achieve specific goals with their site. If, after reading about the three options in further detail, you still have questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.
Finally, once you've explored the options below, please take a moment to download our pre-site questions to gather thoughts from your group's stakeholders on the purpose of your site.
Content Management System
The Rhythmyx CMS solution is a full featured, enterprise-class system which has been operational since August 2008. Use of the CMS is open to all entities inside AgriLife (see FAQs page for timetable and details), but is best suited for areas with a designee assigned who has familiarity with Web administration and content management.
The CMS offers browser-based Web site administration and a very powerful set of features for managing large-scale, content-heavy sites which require multiple authors and levels of approval. Learn more about the Content Management System.
Example of CMS-based site: College of Agriculture and Life Sciences
Grovesite
Grovesite is a third-party web solution that AgriLife has been partnered with since 2003. While it has primarily been used for Extension-related sites in the past, using Grovesite is open to all areas within AgriLife and is ideally suited for groups with a Web site coordinator with limited technical administration skills.
Grovesite offers browser-based Web site administration and a variety of features (see Grovesite page for more detail) for managing medium-to-small sites with relatively light content and sites authors limited to three or less. Learn more about the Grovesite solution.
Example of Grovesite-based site: Texas Master Gardeners
Blog
The Web Corps' Blog solution is based on the hugely popular Movable Type blogging platform which has been around since 2001 and is behind such high-profile blogs as those for ABC News, USA Today and Stanford University to name a few.
A Web Corps Blog offers browser-based administration of a site whose primary function is the publication of frequently updated and topic-specific information and content with a limited number of site administrators. While we work on more details of the Blog option, please feel free to contact Diann Mitchell to learn more about it or next steps.
