A recognized leader in forest and tree development, wildfire prevention and mitigation, and urban and community forestry, the Texas Forest Service collaborates with regional governments and agencies to ensure that the state’s forests are protected and used wisely. Established in 1915, the Texas Forest Service has 66 offices. As the state’s disaster-management agency, it recently led management and recovery efforts following the space shuttle Columbia crash, hurricanes Katrina and Rita, wildfires in the Texas Panhandle, and flooding in central Texas.
